A “Life Collage”
About two years ago, I came up with an idea to put the places I’ve lived onto canvas, in the form of a “life collage” painting, which I’d like to share!
I like the idea of a collage, because it allows you to fit in several pictures that center around the same theme, whether it be a wedding, your home, your family, a vacation, etc. I’ve seen people do this with printed photos that are put together into a nice frame.
The center image in this painting is of a cornfield in Indiana. I grew up there, and although I didn’t live out in the country, there are of course cornfields nearby. Although some people may find it boring, I always loved driving through the flat country land and seeing all of the corn (although a lot of it probably goes to huge agriculture corporations, which I also have my opinions on).
On the top right corner is an image of Sevilla, Spain. I studied there for the spring semester of my sophomore year in college at the University of Indianapolis, and it changed my life – I met my wife there! She was also studying in the same program, through George Mason University.
In the middle right is an image of downtown Indianapolis, the city where I went to college.
The bottom right is supposed to represent Costa Rica, where I was a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Lastly, the bottom left represents Washington, DC, the region I moved back to after Costa Rica. If I were to re-do this painting now, I’d include something of Northern Virginia, where I currently live!
And here is the whole thing:
What do you think of collages? Have you seen any cool paintings of them anywhere?
